Figma

Connect Figma and actors can read the frames, components and tokens in your linked files, work through your prototypes the way a user would, and start automations when a file is saved, commented on, versioned or published as a library.

This page covers the workspace connection, set up in the dashboard. To review frames and run checklists from inside Figma, see the Figma plugin. For the testing workflow once you are connected, read the Figma guide.

What it does

  • Design context. Actors read frames, components and tokens from the design file linked to their project.
  • Prototype walkthroughs. Actors work through your prototypes the way real users would.
  • Per-project files. Each project links its own design file, so runs, feedback and interviews stay attached to the design they came from.
  • Workflow triggers. Automations can start on four Figma events: File Update, File Comment, File Version Update and Library Publish.

Before you start

  • Role. Any member can connect their own Figma account. Turning Figma on for the workspace takes an owner or admin.
  • Plan. Figma does not need a particular plan.
  • Figma access. The Figma account you connect needs access to the files you want actors to read.

Set it up

  1. In app.stuntdouble.io, open Integrations from the sidebar and click Figma.
  2. On Your account, click Connect Figma and approve Stunt Double in Figma. The step changes to Connected as with your Figma name.
  3. On the step named after your workspace, an owner or admin turns the switch on. It reads On. Actors, checklists and automations here can use it.
  4. On Projects, click Choose for a project and pick a project. Its Settings open on the Integrations tab: choose the project's design file there. Repeat for each project that works from a Figma file.

To re-check work when a file changes, create an automation, choose a Figma trigger, then pick from Figma Events.

What Stunt Double can access

Stunt Double asks Figma for these scopes:

ScopeUsed for
current_user:readShowing which Figma account is connected
file_content:readReading frames, components and tokens from linked files
file_metadata:readReading file names and versions
file_comments:readReading comments, including for the File Comment trigger
file_comments:writeWriting comments on linked files

Disconnect

Open Integrations, click Figma, then click Disconnect on Your account. The Disconnect Figma? dialog lists every workspace that loses Figma. Confirm, and those workspaces stop using it until someone connects again.

To stop one workspace from using Figma and leave the rest, an owner or admin turns off the workspace switch instead. You can also remove Stunt Double from the connected apps in your Figma account settings, which revokes access from Figma's side.

Troubleshooting

The workspace step reads "Off. Ask a workspace owner or admin to turn it on." Only owners and admins can flip the switch. Ask one of them to open the Figma card, or send them this page.

The Projects step is greyed out. It waits for the first two steps. Connect your account and turn the workspace switch on first.

Actors cannot see a file. Check that the Figma account you connected can open that file, and that the file is linked on the project's Integrations tab.

Automations do not start on file changes. Confirm the automation is on, its trigger lists the right Figma Events, and Figma is still on for the workspace.
